Breaking New Ground in High-Tensile Assemblies.

A welded, painted assembly in a very high-strength steel, for a global vehicle maker. ENCO built the tools and robot weld fixtures.

The problem

A customer needed a welded and painted assembly. It was a working part, made from a special high-tensile steel of 700 MPa and above. At the time, this was new ground for us. Few suppliers in India were making assemblies in this grade.

The risk was high. The timeline was tight. The end customer was a global vehicle maker with exacting standards. No supplier had a proven record with this steel. The job also needed complex press tools, robot welding fixtures and steel brought in from Europe.

What ENCO did

We worked closely with the customer’s engineers from the start. Our tool room designed and built the press tools and the robot welding fixtures.

We sourced the special-grade steel. We worked through the problems of pressing and welding it. Together with the customer, we developed the process, step by step, until it met the specification.

The result

Trials and SOP were completed on time, with approved parts. The assemblies met the global vehicle maker’s quality standards.
